Whether you are on your first kid or your 14th kid, one thing never changes – the desire to keep your little ones safe from harm. And when you have a new baby, a good video baby monitor is a great way to keep an eye on that little bundle of joy without having to actually hover over the crib. That means that you need a good quality baby monitor that you can rely on, because let’s be honest, you are putting the safety of the baby in its hands. And knowing that you are buying a top rated baby monitor means that you also get the security of knowing that if something were to happen to that baby, you would know that something was wrong immediately.

While I won’t be touching on which ones to avoid, I do want to share with you my top picks when it comes to the best baby monitors for the money. Keep reading for my reviews on this must-have baby equipment.
Best Baby Monitor Under 200 Dollars – 300 Dollars
If you are on a tight budget because new babies are expensive, then you will be relieved to learn that you can still get a great baby monitor under $200 – $300. Sure, you might get all of the bells and whistles, but you still get some high quality equipment that helps you keep that little one safe and sound. My top rated and favorite model is the Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor With Interchangeable Optical Lens.
This one offers a lot of value for the money.
One of the things that is so great about this particular model is that you get video coverage instead of just sound. That makes this an awesome value. And the LCD unit that you get is in full color.
A really neat feature of this Infant Optics video baby monitor is that it has an interchangeable optical lens. What this means is that you can actually change the angle of the camera to give you a more complete picture of what is going on in your baby’s room. You can even zoom in with this baby monitor camera!
It a great long battery life of up to 10 hours, or 6 hours with the LCD screen on. That is pretty great for parents and honestly you really don’t need it any longer than that since babies don’t sleep for very long periods at a time.
Some other features that pretty cool include a room temperature sensor for the baby’s room, infrared night vision and a talk-back function.
The range on this thing is really good too, at about 60 feet away you can still watch and hear everything going on.
Setup is very easy and this is a great travel baby monitor due to its slim, compact design. And, the image and sound quality are very high.
Bottom line: this is a great purchase at a good price!
Best Baby Monitor Under $50
Normally I do not recommend spending so little when we are talking about the safety of your baby, but I know that some people cannot afford more than $50. And, it just so happens that there is a great cheap baby monitor in this price range. It is the VTech DM221 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor.
You don’t get many features with this model, but it does offer good quality audio if that is all that matters to you.
It is important to know that you only get one audio receiver at this price. However, a full charge gives you 18 hours of battery life, which is very impressive.
The audio receiver unit has a belt clip, which is great for getting things done around the house while keeping an ear on the baby’s room. The range is very good and you don’t get any white noise – just clear audio from the room.
Bottom line: this is a great low cost audio baby monitor, but it doesn’t offer a lot of features. If you want just a bare bones monitor, this one is the best value for your money. Otherwise, spend a little more for greater features.
Best Baby Monitor With 2 Cameras
Sometimes just having one set of eyes on the baby isn’t comforting enough. That is when a dual camera baby monitor with two parent units makes a good purchase. Sadly, there are not a lot of options when it comes to two camera video baby monitors, but one model is really great. It is the Motorola Wireless Digital Video Baby Monitor with 2 Cameras.
This is a high quality video baby monitor that comes with two parent unit camera receivers.
This model has all the same great features that you expect in a quality Motorola video baby monitor, except it comes with two cameras instead of one.
You can zoom, tilt and pan the cameras to get a good view of the baby’s room. The video receiver units are in color and have an amazing 590-foot range! This is the best baby monitor with the longest range that I have ever seen.
Other features include infrared night vision, 2-way communication, lullabies, high sensitivity microphone, rechargeable battery, out of range warning indicator and much more.
The only bad thing about this setup is that you cannot view both camera feeds at once. Instead you have to switch back and forth between the two. That is really the only complaint that I have about this one.
Bottom line: this is a great buy if you want two cameras. The audio and video are high quality and it serves it purpose at a great low price.
