Having a connected home is probably single biggest overall theme when it comes to where home technology is headed in 2015 and beyond. Of course, that is a very vague prediction, huh? So, let’s look a little closer at some home tech trends that are set to become a very real thing in homes this year.
1. Bluetooth for lighting and other connectivity
I know that Bluetooth doesn’t really seem like anything new, but it is definitely on the way to being used in some exciting new ways in homes everywhere. What’s really cool about this is that you’ll be able to not only control your light bulbs, but also your electrical outlets with this technology in the very near future. One company is even working on a product that uses the technology to snap and send your phone a photo whenever someone knocks on your front door. How cool is that?
2. The end of the home hub
If you were early to jump on the smart home trend, then your house probably has a home hub device sitting in it. Well, sorry to tell you, but the lifespan of those is coming to a close. Lots of new tech is being developed that doesn’t even require a home hub at all. However, that hub is being placed by something for some products. Keep reading to find out what it is.
3. Your phone will be the command center
Since you carry your phone around with you everywhere, some companies are starting to make home products that work in unison with them. Specifically, with the voice activated features of your phone. Say you want to talk to people in your house over an intercom system or have the outside lights turned on while you’re away. With some of these products, you can accomplish those things just by speaking into your phone – no matter where you might be.
Now, those are just three of the emerging home tech trends that we’re already seeing here in early 2015. And there will likely be a lot of other new exciting things headed our way. So stay tuned!
